About

Women United Around the World (WUAW) is a non-profit organization serving immigrant women new to Maine. WUAW works with other local organizations to promote skills training, leadership development programs, community inclusion through vocational training - such as 3-levels of professional sewing classes (beginner, intermediate and advanced), along with basic math and technology to support the sewing - celebrations and events. We work with women from all national, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.

We teach a skill sets to women that will enable them to obtain a job, gain independence and inclusion. Over the years we have trained professional stitchers with the goal of revamping, promoting and reviving this dying trade and the textile industry in Maine. For immigrant women with an existing professional and/or business background, we match and connect them with Maine women of similar education, experience and careers for mentoring. Our goal is to promote peer support and a networking community.

We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
